preparing our hearts for 2013

winterskyI am all about preparing.

When I started thinking about this blog..what I would write..what I would say..what I would share, I prepared it all in my brain before a word ever hit this page, before my fingers ever touched my computer keyboard, before I ever even turned my computer on.

I’m a preparer by nature. I admit it. It’s one of my greatest gifts and one of my greatest pitfalls.

With the New Year fast approaching, I’ve been thinking about 2013 and all that it may or may not hold for every one of us. A friend of mine reminded me of the Prince song “1999.” I remember when 1999 seemed SO far away. So distant. It seemed so far into the future that it was way out of reach. My friend reminded me the other day that it’s been nearly 14 years since we welcomed in 1999.

14 YEARS? That’s unbelievable! And yet, time has a way of feeling so unreachable and in a blink of an eye, it passes and we’re looking back to it 14 years later.

So how do we prepare for 2013? I don’t really know exactly.

I’m not a New Year’s Resolution girl. I’m just not. As much as I’m a preparer by nature, I don’t believe we have to wait until January 1st to make significant changes in our lives, to reach certain goals, to set forth a new agenda. I believe each day is our New Year. It’s a new chance to start afresh. It’s a new chance to start over.

But I do believe we can prepare our hearts for the year ahead by believing and trusting that God will make all things new, that He will guide us, that He will lead us through this New Year. If we place our trust in Him, we will be okay. There is nothing I need to prepare for, for God has already done the  preparing for me. So I can sit back, smile and welcome this New Year.

I hope you will do the same, too.

Happy New Year, friends!

2013, we welcome you!

  1. Aww thank you, Tamara. I hope and pray for the same thing for myself. It’s easy to get caught up in the “Jan. 1st New Year’s Resolution” tidal wave but it’s a good thing to remember that each day is a fresh start for all of us. You don’t have to wait for Jan. 1st to make changes in your life. Hugs! XO Jenny
